Playing AA pre flop in No-limit
I often hear from weak players that they hate AA. They say they always loose with that hand. And some players actually play that hand really bad. They are so afraid that everybody will fold if they raise so they just check and when somebody raises big on later streets, after getting a big hand they always calls and loose a big pot. With AA you wants as much money in the pot as possible pre flop, preferably all your or your opponents money. If someone have raised in front of you it is often correct to go all in. At smaller stakes you will be called often with hands like AK, JJ, TT and even smaller pairs. If you makes a smaller re raise and your opponent flops trips you will probably lose your whole stack. If you are first in you should raise to four times the big blind most of the times but you could also just call sometimes if you have a lot of aggressive opponents acting after you. If raised make a big re raise. But if you just call and no one raises your AA are in trouble. You now have to flop trips to win a big pot. If you don’t improve your AA and someone gives you action you will probably loose. So in this case you have to fold your AA if you are re raised big on flop, turn or river. When you play AA your opponents will often hold smaller pairs. They have one chance in 8 to flop trips, and if they do they have a good chance to win your whole stack, or if their stack is smaller then yours to double up. Because of this I likes to have at least 1/8 of my or my opponents stack in pre flop. If someone calls with ¼ of his stack, hit trips and double up, I think its no problem. He played against the odds and got lucky and I played correct and will take the money in the long run.
