Baccarat Online - Rules and Strategy

Baccarat is one of the oldest casino games and the game of choice of secret agent 007 James Bond. Baccarat is easy to play and has a very low house edge.

The basic online baccarat rules are the same as the Punto Banco Baccarat Variation.
The objective of Baccarat is to predict which of the two hands dealt (Banker or Player) will be closer to a value of 9.
Each player can receive a maximum of three cards and unlike blackjack you cant go bust in baccarat.
Tens and picture cards count as zero, aces count as one and 2 through 9 as their face value. If the hand value totals ten points or more, subtract ten, and the remainder is the Baccarat point value of the hand. For example: 7+5=12=2 and 8+J=8

You can bet on the player's hand, the banker's hand or on a tie. The banker and the player are then each dealt a two cards. The baccarat rules for card drawing are set by the rules of the game.

If either the player or the banker has a total of an 8 or a 9 they both stand.
If the player's total is 5 or less, then the player hits, otherwise the player stands.
If the player stands, then the banker hits on a total of 5 or less.

The winner is the player closest to 9.

If you bet successfully on the player you are paid out 1:1 on your bet.
If you bet successfully on the banker you are paid 1:1 minus 5% bank commission.
If the player's and the banker's hands have equal totals, the result is a tie. If you placed a bet on the 'tie' field, your payout is 9 to 1.

The best strategy is to always bet on the banker. The house edge on this bet is only 1.06%. The house edge on the player bet is 1.2%. The tie bet has a much higher house edge. If it pays 9:1 the house edge is 4.8%.
