Caribbean Stud Poker Rules and Strategy

Caribbean Stud Poker is a relatively new casino poker game, which has become very popular. Caribbean Stud is a five-card poker game where you play against the casino. The rules are easy to understand if you know the basics of five-card stud poker.

To start the game you have to place a bet in the Ante box. You can also place a $1 progressive bet on the marked space. If you are dealt a big hand, a flush, full house, four-of-a-kind, straight flush or royal flush you will win additional money with this extra bet.
When all bets are placed the dealer and all players will be dealt five cards each. The Players' cards are all face down and the Dealer will expose one of his cards.
The player now either fold, losing his ante, or raise and bets an additional amount equal to twice the ante. The dealer then reveals his remaining four cards. If the dealer's hand is not Ace-King high or better, the player is paid even money on the ante and their secondary bet is returned with no additional money.
If the dealer’s hand is A-K high, or better, he will play his hand against each player based on traditional poker hand rankings.
If your hand beats the Dealer's, you win even money on your Ante bet. For your secondary bet, the odds are as follows:
Pair 1:1 Two Pair 2:1 Three-of-a-kind 3:1 Straight 4:1 Flush 5:1 Full House 7:1 Four-of-a-kind 20:1 Straight Flush 50:1 Royal Flush 100:1

If the dealer beats your hand you will loose both the ante and the bet. But if you placed a Progressive bet and were dealt a flush or higher but loose to the dealer you will still win on that bet.

For the progressive bet you will win the jackpot with a royal flush and 10% of the jackpot with a straight flush. But the payouts on this bet differ from casino to casino. A flush will probably pay 50-100, full house 75-150, four of a kind 100-500.

The correct strategy for the player is as follows:
-
Raise with a pair or higher
- Fold with less than A-K high
- Only bet on the progressive jackpot if the jackpot is very high, this is a really bad bet in most cases.

Caribbean Stud is a game where you cant beat the casino in the long run, the house edge is approximately 5%. But it’s a fun casino game you should play for the entertainment and the excitement and don’t expect to win a lot of money in the long run.
