One of the most popular games for new online poker players is Sit and Go Tournaments (or Sit & Go, Sit n Go or just SnG) . The normal game is with 10 people and the tourney starts at once when the table is full. There are also a lot of different variations, with turbo play, where the blinds increases fast, or with maybe only 5 or 6 people entering or with multi-table where you have 20-30 players in the game. When you look around you will find different types of structures. And you need to pick the one that fits your game-plan the best. If you are a very aggressive player and somewhat loose the games with fast increasing blinds would probably be your type of game. If you are a tight player you would probably look for the tournaments that provides you a longer time to get the hands you need to play.
Sit & Go’s is a lot of fun - you’re always in the game. You have to be. With games rarely lasting as long as an hour, you have to bet sooner or later. You must expect to bluff at some stage, and All-Ins are a certainty. Lots of All-Ins! And if you bust out early, there is no need to wait several hours for the next game at your level – just sit down at a new table and off you go.
The Sit and Go Tournaments are great way to have fun while building your bankroll. Conversely, playing multi-table tournaments is not a good way to build a bankroll because there is too much variance.
I believe this is the proper strategy for single table Sit & Go tournaments.
In the early rounds, the blinds are very small compared to the chip stacks around the table, so you should play very conservative. There are plenty of people eager to get into the action, and each “kill” greatly improves your chances of making the money. Your object in the first tree rounds is to conserve your stack and to observe the other players and see what kind of cards they are playing. By the time you reach level four two or tree players have probably been knocked out, the big blind have increased to 10 percent of the original stacks and the remaining players are tightening up their game. Now its time to steal blinds. If no one have called or raised before you, raise with almost any two reasonable cards. Most of the time no one will call. If you are re raised fold unless you have a real hand. The best opponents to steal blinds from are the ones with medium stacks. They don’t want to risk their whole stack in this stage of the tournament and folds most of their medium hands to raises. When there is only tree players left you could tighten up a little but not too much, the tourney is often won by the most aggressive of the remaining players.
