WSOP Main Event 2008 Radical change in schedule
|
|
Some big changes are being made in the WSOP schedule for 2008. WSOP Main Event 2008 will now last Four Months. The nine players, who reach the final table in the Main Event, this year, will have to wait four months before playing the final table. The changes are being made by Harrahs and ESPN, presumably to make the television production better. Lots of people already know who the winner is before the WSOP is aired on ESPN. Tournament organizers will now stop the tournament when it reaches the final table, which will be concluded in November and televised within half a day of the time it ends. If something happens to a finalist that precludes him from participate in November, his chip stack will be blinded off.
This rule change will also give the finalists more media coverage and more time to negotiate sponsorship deals. Critics point out the potential for collusion, cheating and the risk of a fixed final table.
The Main Event will begin on Thursday, July 3, 2008 and will end on Monday, November 10.
Jerry Yang, 39, won last Years Main Event. Jerry Yang survived a massive field of 6,358 players to win the 2007 WSOP Main Event. Here are final table payouts for the nine finalists:
1. Jerry Yang - $8,250,000 2. Tuan Lam - $4,840,981 3. Raymond Rahme - $3,048,025 4. Alex Kravchenko - $1,852,721 5. Jon Kalmar - $1,255,069 6. Hevad "Rain" Khan - $956,243 7. Lee Childs - $705,229 8. Lee Watkinson - $585,699 9. Philip Hilm - $525,934
